🛠️ The Case of the Over–Eager AI

A mid‑sized oil & gas refinery in Texas recently piloted a new AI‑powered MRO assistant to flag equipment that might need maintenance. In its first week online, the system instantly alerted staff: “Potential seal failure detected in Pump #42!” Maintenance crews rushed over—only to find the pump had been taken offline the night before for a scheduled upgrade.

Turns out, the AI had no memory of recent manual workflows. It did exactly what it was designed to: scan sensor data and identify a “risk.” But the team quips:

“It’s great to detect a problem before it happens… except when you already fixed it yesterday!”

The crew now jokes that the AI is the only team member who never sleeps or reads the weekly schedule.

Takeaway: As helpful as intelligent systems are for dynamic risk detection, they still need a built‑in calendar—and maybe a coffee break—before they can sync with human workflows.
